Join the Rowntree Society as they explore the different ways in which the Rowntree company, family and Trusts provided people fleeing war and/or persecutive with safety and opportunities throughout the 20th century.
The Rowntree Society are a small organisation dedicated to researching the Rowntree legacy, and the good things and more challenging features which are a part of it.
In the 1970s many families of Asian heritage were forced to leave Uganda. We know that the Rowntree company and Trusts helped to provide secure work and housing so that the city of York would accept them. But only one side of the story is documented.
This afternoon drop-in session is a listening excersise, to hear what there is to know from anyone with connection to those stories. So if that’s you, then come along to the Pavilion Building at the centre of Homestead Park in a month’s time to share stories over a cup of tea.
